90 Cube is a quick-hitting man beater out of Shotgun Spread 10 personnel that gets the ball out fast against pressure and man coverage. The X receiver at the top of the screen runs a slant, the outside receiver next to him breaks off a corner route, and the near slot runs a go route vertically to clear space while the far slot works a short out. This is a five man protection concept with no blocking tags shown, so the primary read progression starts with the slant/flat combo on the left side, working to the slant first, then the corner route if the underneath defender squats, and the go route on the outside as a hot read versus blitz.

Defensive Reads

Man coverage on the outside receivers is a green light for the slant, since it beats off man leverage instantly. Watch for underneath linebackers sitting on shallow crossers, this is what shuts down the slant and forces a check to the corner or go route. Cover 3 zone defenders will vacate the flat and hook zones, giving the slant room to settle underneath before the safety can close. A hard corner blitz or nano blitz off the edge should trigger an immediate hot read to the slant or the flat route to avoid a sack. Two high safety shells with press corners can bracket the corner route, so check pre-snap alignment to confirm which vertical option to trust.

Usage Tips

Fire the slant route quickly against Cover 3 and man coverage since it settles into soft zones and beats off man leverage on a quick break.

Use the corner route as your primary answer against Cover 2 since it climbs over the underneath defenders and settles between the corner and safety.

Check the flat defender before the snap, if he is sitting inside expect the slant to be open immediately off the snap.

Pair this play with Y Cross or Mesh in your play-calling sequence to attack the same underneath zones with different timing, forcing linebackers to guess.

Best called on early downs or in third and short situations where the quick slant and out combo can pick up first down yardage before pressure arrives.
