Breakdown

Shuffle Go is a vertical shot play out of Shotgun Spread 10 personnel built to isolate a deep go route on the boundary while the rest of the concept clears space underneath for check downs. The shuffle motion in the backfield or slot pulls a defender's eyes and can create a natural rub or pick against man coverage before the outside receiver stems into his vertical stem. This is primarily a man beater against single high safety looks, with the primary read progression going from the deep go route first, then working down to the intermediate crosser or shuffle route for a checkdown against zone drops.

Defensive Reads

Read the free safety alignment pre-snap, a single high safety in the deep middle signals Cover 1 or Cover 3 which is where the go route wins most consistently. Watch the cornerback's press alignment at the line, soft coverage or a large cushion tells you the defense expects the vertical shot and may bracket it with a deep half safety. Post-snap, key the flow of the linebackers on the shuffle motion, if they widen out to cover it that opens a running lane or throwing window underneath for the crosser. Identify two high safeties before the snap as a sign of Cover 2 or Cover 4, which takes away the deep shot and forces you to rely on the underneath route or check down. Watch for a user controlled defender sitting in a deep third or playing a lurk technique over the top, since a disciplined user safety can jump the go route and bait a turnover if the quarterback forces it.

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion on the shuffle man to bait linebackers into showing man coverage before the snap so you can diagnose blitz packages early.

Take the deep shot against single high safety shells like Cover 1 or Cover 3 where the corner has no help over the top on the go route.

Hot route the underneath shuffle route into a quick out or speed out if you see press man on the outside to give yourself a faster release option.

Pair this play with 45 Quick Base or Quick Slants in your play calling sequence so defenses respect the short game before you hit them with the deep shot.

Best called on second and long or first down shots when you want to alter field position quickly, and avoid it in obvious short yardage downs where the defense can sit on underneath routes.
