Hank is a Shotgun Spread man beater built around a quick, high low read progression to the field side. The route combo isolates a shifty underneath option against linebackers and nickel defenders while a deeper route stretches the cornerback vertically to open space behind him. Protection is a standard five man slide, so the primary read is the shallow option route first, working up to the deep route if the underneath defender sits or a blitzer forces an early throw.

Defensive Reads

Watch for man coverage across the board, especially press alignment on the outside receivers, since that confirms the option route will have room to break away from the defender. Identify if a linebacker or nickel defender is shaded inside pre-snap, which signals they are keying the shallow option and will jump the route. Post-snap, key the flow of the underneath zone defenders in Cover 2 or Cover 3 looks, since a hard zone drop can take away the shallow read and force the quarterback to the deeper route. Watch for a user controlled lurk defender sitting in the shallow window, as this is the most common way Hank gets shut down at the intermediate level.
