Breakdown

Spot N Go out of Shotgun Spread 10 personnel is a quick game concept built around a spot combination underneath with a go route stacked on top to stretch the defense vertically. The design pairs a flat route, a hitch or curl at the spot, and a corner/go route that occupies the deep defender, giving you both a rhythm throw against zone and a vertical shot against man coverage. Your primary read starts with the flat/spot combo underneath and progresses to the go route if the corner bites on the shorter routes or if you see a rolled up corner in man with no safety help over the top.

Defensive Reads

Identify if the defense is showing two high safeties pre snap, this usually signals zone coverage and tells you to work the spot route into the underneath void immediately. Watch the flat defender at the snap, if he sinks with the spot route instead of expanding to the flat, that confirms zone and opens a throwing lane to the shallow flat route. Key the corner over the go route, if he presses at the line with no deep safety help, that is man coverage with no top and the go route wins immediately on a vertical shot. Beware of user linebackers dropping into a lurk position under the spot route, this play struggles against defenses that sit a rat in the shallow zone and take away the middle read. Cover 3 with a hard flat defender and a deep third corner shell can shut this down since it clogs both the spot and the go route reads, so be ready to check down or reset with a different concept if you see that shell pre snap.

Usage Tips

Use this play on early downs or third and medium when defenses are more likely to sit in zone shells that the spot concept exposes underneath.

Check the corner and safety alignment pre snap, if you see a single high safety with the corner playing tight man, prioritize the go route as your first read instead of working through the spot.

Hot route the flat defender's man into a quick out or speed out if the CPU or user defender is squatting on the spot route to bait a throw.

Pair this play with Mtn Z Spot N Go and Z Spot from the same set so the defense has to respect the go route every time it sees a spot concept, forcing hesitation on underneath defenders.

Sequence this play after running HB Draw or Inside Zone earlier in the drive to get linebackers to play downhill, opening up the spot route sitting in the void behind them.
