Breakdown
Streaks out of Singleback Doubles sends all four eligible receivers vertically to stretch the field on one shot play. Both outside receivers and the slot receiver run straight streaks up the numbers and the seam, while the TE runs a quick flat/out route to the boundary as a checkdown, and the HB stays in to block or leaks out on a flare underneath. This is a pure man beater designed to isolate cornerbacks deep and create one on one shots down the field, with the primary read progression going from the deep outside streak to the seam streak, then working down to the TE flat route if the top of the defense holds up.
Defensive Reads
Identify single high safety pre-snap since this alignment leaves only one deep defender to cover multiple vertical threats and favors the streaks. Watch cornerback depth and technique at the snap, since press man or tight man coverage with no safety help over the top is the ideal matchup for the outside streak. Read linebacker depth and eyes for blitz indicators, since a rushed quarterback under pressure will not have time to let the deep streaks develop and will be forced into the quick TE flat. Cover 2 and Cover 4 shells with two deep safeties are the primary counter to this play, since they can bracket the outside streaks and take away the big play window. Look for user controlled safeties or linebackers sitting in the deep middle or lurking the seam, since a smart user play on the inside streak can bait a turnover if the quarterback stares down that route too long.
Usage Tips
Call this on early downs or in shot plays situations when you have already established the run and want to attack a defense playing up in run support.
Check pre-snap for single high safety looks or man coverage indicators like corners lined up tight with no outside help, since that tells you the streaks have a real chance to win vertically.
Use hot routes to convert one streak into a slant or dig if you diagnose zone coverage post-snap, since four verticals into a zone shell without adjustment will get swallowed by deep defenders.
Pair this play in your call sheet with Four Verticals and Dagger from the same set to keep the defense guessing between true verticals and combo routes that use the streaks as clear outs.
Take the TE flat route as your checkdown against soft zone coverage or when the pass rush closes the pocket quickly, since it is the built in answer to bail you out of a bad rep.
Use play action rollouts or PA Boot Comeback earlier in a drive to set up defenders biting on run fakes, then come back to this straight drop back streaks concept to hit the defense over the top.
