PA Y-corner Fork is a play-action pass out of Singleback Doubles 11 personnel that sells a run fake before the tight end releases into a corner route from the Y position. The concept works as a man beater against off coverage and a zone beater versus split safety shells, since the corner route stretches the flat defender vertically while underneath crossers and flat routes occupy linebackers. Primary read progression starts with the Y-corner route working outside toward the sideline, then works down to any underneath drag or shallow cross as the checkdown against tight man coverage.
Watch for user-controlled safeties rotating late to double the corner route, which signals a disguised Cover 3 or Cover 4 shell trying to bait the throw. Check linebacker depth at the snap: shallow linebackers that bite on the run fake open up the intermediate window for the corner route before the safety can recover. Cover 2 with aggressive corners jumping the flat will take away the underlying route options, forcing the quarterback to trust the corner route over the top. Man coverage with no safety help over the top gets exposed by the Y-corner route since it attacks the sideline where zone defenders have no help. Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge test the play-action fake's protection, so identify nano blitz looks pre-snap and be ready to throw off timing on the quick backside hot route.
Use the run fake to freeze linebackers before checking the Y-corner route, especially against teams that bite hard on inside zone tendencies out of Doubles.
Identify single high versus split safety pre-snap: against single high, the corner route has more room to work outside the numbers since the deep half defender is occupied by other vertical threats.
Hot route the backside receiver into a quick out or slant if you see Cover 2 corners sitting hard on the outside, giving you a quick answer against a hard flat defender.
Pair this play with HB Dive or Inside Zone from the same Doubles set to keep defenses honest on early downs, then hit PA Y-corner Fork on second down for a play-action shot.
Best used on second and short to second and medium, where defenses respect the run fake and linebackers step up before the tight end clears the flat zone.
