PA Y Glance is a play-action shot play out of Singleback Doubles 11 personnel. The play-fake to the HB holds the second and third level linebackers, while both outside receivers on the left and the outside receiver on the right release vertically on go routes to stretch the deep coverage and clear the middle of the field. The TE runs a glance route (a quick slant breaking hard away from the play-action fake), and the RB checks down into the flat off a shallow release from the backfield after selling the block fake. Defensive Reads

Check the safety count before the snap, a single high safety struggles to cover both outside verticals and the interior glance simultaneously. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they bite hard on the play-action fake the glance route will come open immediately underneath. Identify man versus zone by reading the corners, if they turn and run with the outside receivers on the verticals it signals man coverage and the glance becomes the primary answer against a vacated middle. Beware two high safety shells with sound zone drops, since a deep half safety over the top of each vertical route can squeeze the throwing window and force the checkdown to the RB. Watch for a user controlled defender sitting in the middle of the field (lurking near the TE glance route), since that is the main threat that can jump the primary read and bait a turnover.

Usage Tips

Look for single high safety shells pre-snap since the vertical stretch on both sides makes it hard for one deep defender to cover three verticals and the glance underneath.

Use the play-action fake on early downs, ideally first and second and short to medium yardage, to keep linebackers honest and sell the run threat.

Hot route the TE glance into a quicker breaking option against tight man coverage if the corner is playing inside leverage, since the glance already attacks inside.

Pair this play with HB Dive or Inside Zone earlier in a series so the run fake actually influences linebacker flow before calling PA Y Glance.

If the defense shows heavy blitz looks pre-snap, get the ball out fast to the TE glance since it is the quickest developing throw in this concept.
