PA Boot is a play-action rollout from Singleback Doubles that pulls the QB to the boundary edge off a run fake, giving him a run-pass option on the move. The route concept features a vertical clear-out from the boot-side receiver, two yellow out-breaking routes from the backside receivers that climb the numbers, and a flat/check route from the backfield to give the QB a quick underneath outlet if the pocket collapses. Blocking shows the offensive line sliding to protect the edge as the QB rolls out, and this is primarily a man beater since it stresses defenders who have to run with routes on the move while the QB extends the play outside the tackle box. The primary read progression starts with the vertical shot down the sideline, works back to the deep out breaking route, then checks down to the flat route as the outlet.
Pre-snap, check linebacker depth: if they are crashing downhill on run alignment, this play action concept should hold them just long enough to open the deep out route. Watch for a two high safety shell, which signals the defense is sitting on the vertical shot and daring you to work the intermediate out breaking routes instead. Post-snap, key any user-controlled defender flying to the flat since that usually means the deep routes are your best answer against an aggressive underneath jump. This play struggles against a hard edge blitz or contain defenders crashing the boot side immediately, since it collapses the QB's rollout lane and forces an early checkdown. Zone coverage with a flat defender sitting on the boot side flat route can bait a bad checkdown throw, so read the flat defender's leverage before committing to the underneath option.
Use PA Boot on early downs like first or second and short to mid distance so the run fake actually holds linebackers and safeties for a beat.
Check the safety alignment pre-snap: if you see two high safeties sitting deep, throw the deep out route to the yellow receiver on the boot side since the vertical route will occupy the deep half.
Roll the QB out with the RS/right stick or run motion toward the boot side immediately after the snap to maximize the extra second the play-action fake buys you.
Hot route the flat route into a quick speed out if you are facing man coverage with an aggressive slot corner, since it gives you an instant separation window off the fake.
Pair PA Boot with PA Boot Comeback and PA Ctr Waggle in the same drive so the defense has to respect both the deep shot and the shorter comeback breaks off similar action, keeping linebackers honest against the run fake.
