PA Boot is a play-action rollout out of Singleback Doubles that pulls the quarterback to the right on a naked boot while the backfield fake sells inside zone or dive action. The two receivers to the left run a staggered out combo, with the inside receiver breaking to a shallow out and the outside receiver climbing to a deeper out along the boundary, giving the quarterback a high low read on that side. The backside receiver runs a vertical seam up the numbers as a shot option, while the underneath receiver in the flat area sits down as a checkdown/scramble drill outlet. Defensive Reads

Zone defenses with a linebacker spying the backside seam will take away the alert shot route, so check that lane before locking onto it as your first read. Man coverage with press corners on the outside routes struggles to stay with the deep out breaking away from the sideline, making this a strong man beater when the corner overplays the vertical stem. Disguised blitzes off the edge on the rollout side can collapse the pocket quickly, so if the defense shows an unblocked rusher to that side, get the ball out on the shallow out or flat route before the roll fully develops.

Usage Tips

Run this on early downs (1st and 10, 2nd and short to medium) when you have already established the run game so linebackers and safeties respect the play fake.

Key the strong safety and linebacker depth pre-snap: if they are sitting shallow expecting run support, the deep out and backside seam will have room to work.

Use the flat outlet as your dump off against blitz heavy defenses since the boot action naturally clears the edge rusher on the rollout side.

Pair this with HB Dive or Inside Zone earlier in a drive to condition the defense to bite on the run fake, then hit them with PA Boot for the explosive shot play.

Hot route the shallow out receiver into a quick out if you are facing a hard corner blitz, since that route breaks fastest and gives the quarterback an immediate answer on the move.
