Breakdown

Goalline Fade lines up out of Singleback Doubles with 11 personnel and sends both outside receivers vertical while the slot receivers work underneath. The X receiver at the bottom runs a fade to the corner while the TE releases into a quick flat/out in front of him, and on the backside the outside receiver climbs a deep corner-breaking route with the inner slot receiver running a short flag or pivot underneath. This is a man beater built for one-on-one fade shots near the goal line, with the primary read starting on the X receiver's fade for a back-shoulder throw and progressing to the backside corner route if the boundary defender jumps the underneath route.

Defensive Reads

Identify whether the corner is playing press man or off man before the snap since press man is what this fade concept is built to attack with a back-shoulder throw. Watch the safety alignment at the snap, a single high safety rotating late to the fade side signals man coverage and green light to trust the outside throw. Key the flat defender or nickel corner, if he sits on the TE flat route it opens the window for the underdeath flag route to the slot receiver. On the backside, read the corner route defender's depth, if he sinks with the route it means zone coverage and you should look to the shorter flag route instead. This play struggles against two-high shells like Cover 2 or Cover 4 that keep a safety over the top of both fades, so avoid calling it into those shells without a hot route adjustment.

Usage Tips

Call this play inside the ten yard line or in true red zone jump ball situations where you have a size mismatch at receiver.

Pre-snap, check for single high safety looks or press man coverage on the outside receivers since this play is designed to win one-on-one vertical battles.

Use the flat route from the TE to hold underneath defenders and open a throwing lane for the back-shoulder fade to the X receiver.

If the defense shows two high safeties or soft zone, hot route the backside corner route into a quicker breaking route to avoid throwing into a deep half defender.

Pair this play with Fade Out or Fade Smash from the same set to keep the defense guessing between the pure fade and combo route concepts near the goal line.
