PA FL Stretch is a play-action shot play built off outside zone action from Singleback Wing Tight. The play fakes the stretch run to sell the run fit, then releases three receivers vertically: two corner routes breaking outside from the inside slot alignments and an out route from the wing/tight end that clears underneath at a shallow depth. The lone backside receiver runs a vertical seam or go route up the numbers. This is a man beater against off coverage, since the double corner routes create natural high low separation on outside corners and the vertical seam stresses a single high safety, while the primary read progression starts with the backside vertical against man leverage before working to the corner routes if the safety bites on the run fake.
Pre snap, identify two high versus one high safety alignment because two high shells force you to progress through your reads instead of taking an early shot down the field. Watch cornerback depth at the snap, if they sit at five to seven yards in off coverage the corner routes will beat them clean over the top. Post snap, key the play side linebacker's first two steps, aggressive run fits mean the flat and out routes will be wide open behind them. Cover 3 with a hard flat defender can undercut the underneath out route, so be ready to climb the ladder to the corner route instead. Watch for a user controlled safety sitting in a lurk position over the deep middle, that defender can rob the backside vertical if you stare it down too long.
Check the safety depth before the snap because a deep single high shell tells you to trust the corner routes since the safety cannot help over both sides.
Look for linebackers stepping up hard on the run fake, that hesitation is exactly what opens the underneath out route for an easy checkdown.
Use this play on second and short or third and medium when defenses expect the run based on personnel and formation tendencies.
Pair PA FL Stretch with HB Inside Zone and 26 Duo out of the same set so defenses cannot sit on the play action key.
If the corner blitzes off the edge, get the ball out quickly to the shallow out route since the protection is built around zone run blocking, not max protect.
