Defensive Reads

If the corner over the slant receiver presses at the line, expect the route to break open fast inside, so time your throw before the window closes. Zone shells with a linebacker sitting in the passing lane can jump the slant, so check the depth of the underneath zone defender before committing to that read. Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells with deep help over the top will not stop the slant but can rally fast, so throw with anticipation rather than waiting for full separation.
