Defensive Reads

Watch for a lurking linebacker sitting in the throwing lane of the intermediate route, a user controlled defender jumping this window can bait a quarterback into a costly turnover.

Usage Tips

Look for single high safety shells like Cover 3 or Cover 1 pre-snap since the flood concept is designed to overload one deflender on the play side.

Use the play action fake on early downs, especially second and short, to hold linebackers and freeze the safety before he can rotate to the flooded side.

If the corner route is blanketed by a deep defender, work the progression down to the out route sitting in the intermediate zone, then check down to the flat if both are covered.

Hot route the backside crosser into a shallow drag against man coverage to give yourself a quick, high percentage answer if the flood side is jumped.

Pair this with HB Inside Zone or HB Ace Power earlier in a drive so the play action fake actually holds the linebackers, then hit PA Flood once the defense starts cheating up on run action.
