PA Boot Flood is a play-action rollout concept out of Singleback Wing Tight that floods one side of the field with three distinct route levels. The backside receiver runs a deep vertical clearout while the flood side stacks a deep corner route, an intermediate sit route sneaking behind the line to the flat, and a wing releasing to the underneath flat, creating a true high low low flood read as the QB boots outside the pocket. This is a play action pass built as a Cover 3 beater, attacking the rolled up flat defender and hook zone defenders with layered spacing, and the primary progression reads flat to intermediate to deep corner as the quarterback works the boot.

Defensive Reads

Identify single high safety pre snap, since that usually signals Cover 3 or Cover 1 and both leave the flat to corner flood window vulnerable to the boot action. Watch the flat defender or curl to flat player at the snap, if he bites hard on the run fake or widens too far outside the intermediate sit route sits down right behind him for an easy completion. Key the boot side outside linebacker or Sam defender, if he crashes down to play run action he cannot recover in time to affect either the flat or the deep corner route. Two high safety shells with press corners on the outside can shut this down quickly, since the corner route has no room to work and the flat gets bracketed by underneath zone defenders. Watch for a delayed contain blitz off the boot edge, defenses that scheme a nano blitz or edge rusher spy to chase the quarterback outside can disrupt the timing before the deep corner route ever comes open.

Usage Tips

Use this on early downs or second and medium when the defense is showing a run heavy front, since the play action fake needs a base personnel look or linebackers cheating up to sell.

Read the flat defender first as you boot out, if he sits on the underneath flat route the intermediate sit route behind him is open, if he widens to that route the flat is wide open underneath.

Check the corner pre snap for outside leverage, if he is playing off with inside shade the deep corner route can be user thrown on a back shoulder placement against Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells.

Pair this with PA Boot Left and PA Boot Slide in the same drive to keep the defense guessing on which direction the flood hits, since all three share the same play action mesh point footwork.

Avoid calling this against heavy blitz looks unless you have a quick game answer dialed up, since the rollout mechanics take extra time to develop and a fast interior blitz can beat the boot before routes clear.
