Spread Y-Flex Wk takes the standard Shotgun 11 personnel look and flexes the tight end away from the strength, creating a weak side receiver pairing while stacking numbers to the strong side. Where a base Spread set gives you symmetrical 2x2 spacing, Spread Y-Flex Wk builds an unbalanced picture: the Y detaches from the line and works out of a flexed slot alignment on the weak side, which forces the defense to declare whether it travels a linebacker or nickel out to cover him. That declaration is the whole point of the set. If a linebacker walks out over the flexed Y, you have a coverage mismatch you can attack immediately with a slant, whip, or seam release before the defender can recover.
The play list leans heavily into RPO and motion concepts, which is where this set separates itself from the rest of the Shotgun family. RPO Zone Peek, RPO Peek Slant, and RPO Read Bubble let you read the box count post-snap without committing pre-snap, and the Orbit and Mtn (motion) tagged plays like Orbit Y Stick, Orbit Y Sail, Mtn Bench, Mtn Whip Cross, and Mtn Spot Y Seam give you free pre-snap motion to identify man versus zone. If the defender travels with the motion man you are in man coverage and you kick to Double Slants, Quick Slants, Inside Cross, or Double Cross. If nobody follows, you have zone and you attack the voids with Mtn Bench Curls, Vert Comebacks, Hitch Seam, or Spot Y Cross.
The 3DRB and SLWR tags matter here because the set is built to isolate your best mismatch pieces. A receiving back gets clean access to the flat and the checkdown on HB Slip Screen and Mtn HB Slip Screen, and the slot receiver tag means your quickest separator lives in the flexed alignment where he sees the softest coverage defender on the field. The run game is intentionally lean (Inside Zone, HB Base, HB Mid Draw) but that is enough to keep a light box honest, especially when you pair it with the RPO peek reads and the Gadget tag looks.
Open every series with a motion play to bank the coverage read. Send the Orbit motion on Orbit Y Stick or the Mtn tag on Mtn Bench and watch the defender over the flexed Y. Travel means man, so you audible or check into Double Slants and Inside Cross. Static means zone, so you go to Mtn Bench Curls, Vert Comebacks, or Spot Y Cross.
Live in the RPO package on first and second down. RPO Zone Peek and RPO Read Bubble let you take the free yards when the box is light and pull the ball when the linebacker crashes. RPO Peek Slant is your best answer when the defense plays soft off coverage on the flexed Y.
On third and medium, Mtn Y Stick, Mtn Spot Dig, and Orbit Stick N Nod all sit right at the sticks. Hot route the back to a flat or angle route as your blitz beater and check him first if you see a walked up nickel or a mugged linebacker.
Save the deep shots for after you have run the crossers. PA Dagger, PA Cross, and PA Y Cross work best once linebackers start jumping the shallow crossing routes from Double Cross and Inside Cross, and the play action hold buys the extra beat those concepts need.
Counter the aggressive pass rusher with HB Slip Screen or Mtn HB Slip Screen right after a max protect look, and use HB Mid Draw when your opponent shows a two high shell with the user dropped deep. Both plays keep the box honest without asking your line to win a straight run block.
