Double Post out of Spread Y-Flex Wk in Shotgun sends both the slot receiver and the flexed TE up the seam into stacked post routes, creating a natural pick concept that clears out the deep middle. The outside receiver at the top runs a vertical to hold the corner and safety, while the backside receiver breaks off a deep out and the running back releases into a check down flare out of the backfield. This is a man beater and Cover 2 beater built to attack the seams and safety rotation, with the primary read progression going from the deepest post to the shorter crossing post underneath it, then working down to the backside comeback out and finally the checkdown flare if both posts are covered.
Defensive Reads
Key the free safety pre-snap, if he is aligned deep middle in a single high shell the double post has a strong chance to split the coverage. Watch the corner over the vertical route at the top of the screen, if he presses hard and turns his hips to run with the streak that opens more room for the trailing post. Post-snap, track any user-controlled defender sitting in the deep middle third since a rangy lurk defender can undercut the shallower post route before it clears. Cover 3 with a rangy deep middle defender or Cover 4 quarters shells with disciplined safeties reading route stems shut this down quickly, forcing you to check down early. If linebackers show blitz and drop late into the seam, that delayed zone drop is designed specifically to jump the underneath post, so climb your first read progression faster.
Usage Tips
Look for single high safety shells or Cover 2 pre-snap since the double post stacks routes that stress a safety trying to cover two verticals at once.
Use motion or a hard count to bait linebackers before the snap and confirm whether you are facing man or zone based on defender reaction to the flex TE releasing inside.
Hot route the checkdown back into a flat route against heavy blitz looks to give yourself an outlet if the posts are jumped by underneath zone defenders.
Pair this play with Four Verticals or PA Dagger in your call sheet so defenses cannot sit on the post concept without opening up seams elsewhere.
Best used on second and medium or third and long when you need a explosive gain, since the double post takes time to develop and needs a clean pocket.
