Defensive Reads

Watch the deep safeties at the snap, if they bail late or one flows to the clear out route the post window opens immediately underneath. Key the flat defender or slot corner, if he sinks into a zone drop rather than sitting flat, that confirms zone coverage and tells you to work the low post before the high post window closes. Look for a linebacker spying the middle of the field, a heavy Tampa 2 look with a deep middle linebacker can undercut the low post throw. Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion or a hard count to bait the safety and confirm if you are looking at single high or two high shell before the snap.

Against Cover 4 or Cover 2, throw the low post first since the safety responsible for the deep half will often widen with the clear out route, opening the window underneath.

If you see man coverage with no safety help over the top, look immediately to the high post for a big play since the clear out route occupies the corner.

Hot route the flat route into a shallow drag or spot if you are getting a lot of underneath zone traffic and need a faster outlet.
