This is a pure man and zone beater built to stress Cover 2 and Cover 3 shells by flooding all three deep zones at once, forcing the deep defenders to pick a side. The primary read progression starts with the seam route matched against the safety leverage, then works to the boundary vertical if the safety rotates away, with the backside vertical as the last resort shot play.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, check safety depth and spacing, since two safeties tight to the hash indicates Cover 2 or Cover 4 while one deep safety in the middle signals Cover 3 or Cover 1. Post-snap, watch for the safeties biting on the seam routes early, which opens the outside verticals for a big play down the sideline. Look for a user-controlled safety flashing toward the seam, a common lurk tactic, and counter by working the opposite vertical route. This play struggles against Cover 4 or Cover 6 shells with two deep safeties and disciplined corners playing outside leverage, since all four verticals get bracketed. Man coverage with press corners and a single high safety is the most dangerous look against this concept if the offensive line cannot hold up long enough for routes to separate, so watch blitz indicators like linebackers creeping to the edge before the snap.
Usage Tips
Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is showing two deep safeties or one high, because that dictates which seam route will win.
Against Cover 2, target the seam route that splits the two safeties before the corner and safety can squeeze it, since the flat defender has no help over the top.
Against Cover 3, isolate the single high safety by reading which vertical he leans toward and throw opposite him to the other three verts.
Use hot routes to slide the HB into a checkdown or flat route if the blitz shows heavy pressure, giving yourself an outlet against nano blitzes.
Pair this call with RPO Zone Peek or Quick Slants earlier in a series to bait linebackers into cheating up, then hit Four Verticals off the same formation once safeties start creeping toward the line.
Best used on 2nd and long or as a shot play on 1st down when you want to test soft coverage shells before defenses start rotating extra help deep.
