Orbit Y Sail runs out of Shotgun Spread Y-Flex Wk with orbit motion into a classic sail concept on the right and a dig/out combo on the left. The right side stacks a corner route on top of a flat route for a high low read on any curl to flat defender or overhang, while the far left receiver runs a deep corner and the underneath receiver settles into an out breaking route, with the motion man releasing to the flat as the checkdown. This is a Cover 2 and Cover 3 beater built to stress flat defenders and hard corners, and the primary read progression starts with the corner route on the sail side, works down to the flat route underneath it, then flows to the backside out and finally the shallow flat option off the orbit motion.
Watch the deep half safety alignment before the snap, if he is shaded hard to the sail side he is sitting on the corner route and you should look opposite to the backside out. Key the flat defender on the sail side, if he widens with the motion man immediately the corner route behind him is open in the void. Identify any user controlled defender lurking underneath the sail concept, a smart user will sit in the passing lane between the flat and corner route to jump the high low read. Against man coverage, watch for a linebacker or safety matched on the orbit motion man, a blitz disguised behind that motion can arrive quickly if the running back stays in to block. Cover 4 or quarters shells with press corners can shut this down since the corner route runs into a deep defender with help underneath, so be ready to check down to the backside out or flat route instead of forcing the corner throw.
Use the orbit motion pre snap to identify man versus zone, if a defender follows the motion man across the formation you are getting man coverage and should hot route the sail side corner to sit down against a trailing corner.
Against Cover 2, throw the sail concept corner route on time before the deep half safety can rotate over, the flat route underneath will occupy the corner sitting in the hole.
Against Cover 3, work the backside out route and the orbit flat man since the deep third corner cannot cover both the corner route and the sweep across the field.
This play pairs well with Orbit Y Stick and Orbit Stick N Nod in the same set, since all three use the same orbit motion presnap look but attack different levels, forcing defenders to respect the motion without knowing which concept is coming.
On third and medium, call this from a hurry up look to prevent defenders from getting a clean pre snap diagnosis of the motion, and lean on the sail concept high low if you see zone match principles post snap.
