Inside Zone Split lines up out of Shotgun Y Off Trips Wk with the RB set behind the QB and the offensive line executing a zone blocking scheme, stepping in unison toward the play side to create a natural cutback lane. The trips receivers and TE hold their stems as pass decoys with no route action shown, keeping the defense honest while the interior line climbs to the second level. This is a base zone run play designed to gash light boxes, with the primary read being the RB following his zone track and reading the play side double team before deciding to press downhill or bend it back against defensive flow.
Pre-snap, identify if the defense is showing a one high or two high safety look since one high alignments often mean an extra run defender is cheating into the box. Watch the Mike linebacker depth and shade, if he is stacked tight behind the nose it signals a downhill run fit that favors the defense. Post-snap, key the defensive tackles for penetration versus the zone steps, disciplined gap fill defenders who do not overpursue will shut this down quickly. User controlled defenders flowing hard to the play side create the cutback window, so watch for lurking user players sitting in the backside gap expecting the bounce. This run struggles against heavy blitz packages and stacked fronts with extra linebackers since the zone blocking scheme cannot handle numbers disadvantages at the point of attack.
Check the box count before the snap and only run this into 6 or fewer defenders in the box to avoid a numbers disadvantage.
Use the trips Wk alignment to bait defenses into rotating extra help away from the run, then attack the vacated side.
Pair this with RPO Zone Dive and RPO Alert Bubble Dive from the same set so the defense has to respect both the give and the perimeter throw off identical formation looks.
On early downs against odd fronts with a stacked Mike linebacker, hot route the trips receivers to stay in as extra pass pro reads if you sense a heavy blitz, otherwise let the zone action work naturally.
Mix in Bounce Inside Zone and Outside Zone from the same set to keep linebackers guessing on run fits and force lateral hesitation.
