RPO Alert Bubble Dive is an RPO out of Shotgun Y Off Trips Wk that gives the QB a pre-snap alert key on the read defender. The diagram shows the HB running a dive read into the interior of the line with the tackle blocking down, the backside slot receiver working a quick bubble screen underneath, and the outside trips receiver running a vertical seam route up the sideline. The primary read progression starts with the alert defender to decide handoff versus bubble, and the seam route serves as a big play outlet if the defense sells out on the run or bubble flow.
Watch the slot corner or overhang defender pre-snap since his depth and leverage tell you if he is sitting on the bubble or cheating into the box for run support. Look at safety alignment before the snap, a single high safety often means the box is loaded and the bubble or seam should be your first option. Post-snap, key the flat defender's first step, if he crashes on the dive fake immediately, the bubble screen will have room to work. Watch for user-controlled defenders lurking in the shallow flat or jumping the bubble route, this is the counter to this concept and should push you toward the dive or seam instead. Aggressive nano blitzes up the middle can blow up the dive read quickly, so recognize blitz indicators and be ready to get the ball out fast on the bubble or seam.
Pre-snap, identify the alert defender (usually the overhang or slot corner) since his run fit or leverage dictates whether you give the dive or pull and throw the bubble.
If the defense shows a two high shell with the slot corner sitting soft, take the dive since the box should be light for the HB.
If you see man coverage or the slot defender crashing hard on run action, pull the ball and hit the bubble for a quick, easy gain before the flat defender can react.
Use the seam route as a home run shot against zone coverages that bite on the bubble or dive fake, especially versus Cover 3 rotations where the deep defender bites down.
Pair this play with RPO Alert Split Bubble and RPO Alert Mtn Dive in the same set to keep defenders guessing on run fits and force them to declare early, setting up explosive plays later in the series.
