Defensive Reads

Look for linebacker flow and pursuit angles, a slow-triggering linebacker gets caught behind the reload action and cannot rally to the sideline. Heavy blitz packages with extra defenders crashing the box can blow this up quickly, so avoid calling it into obvious run blitz looks.

Usage Tips

Check the box count pre-snap, this play needs light boxes or a slanting front to hit for explosive yardage.

Use motion adjustments to shift the defense and confirm if you are getting man or zone leverage on the edge before the snap.

Bounce the run outside if the alley defender bites on the reload fake, but stay ready to cut it back inside if the edge is sealed.
