Off the fake, the backside receiver runs a deep comeback breaking outside while the middle of the field gets a crossing route underneath it, and the near receiver on the strong side clears vertically to hold the safety while the TE releases into the flat as a checkdown. Watch the flat defender and any underneath zone defender near the TE release, if they widen out to the jet fake instead of sitting on the flat route that area becomes an easy answer. Check single high versus two high safety shells before the snap, single high means the comeback route has more room since the corner is often playing off to help against the run fake. Beware disciplined zone defenses that keep linebackers at depth and do not bite on the jet sweep action, that shell can sit on the underneath cross and take away the easy answer. Man coverage with press corners and no run support flow to the sweep side is the toughest look, since the corner can stay attached to the comeback route without needing to respect run action first.

Usage Tips

Use jet sweep and run plays like Same Side Zone or Inside Zone earlier in a series to condition the defense to bite on motion before dialing this up as the play action punish call.

Check the flat defender and any linebacker spying the jet motion pre snap, if they crash hard on the sweep fake the TE flat route and the underneath cross will be wide open.

Against man coverage the deep comebacker on the backside is your best win, especially versus corners playing off or bailing with the play fake since it creates natural separation on the break.

Hot route the backside outside receiver into a deeper comeback or a fade if you are facing single high safety looks to stress the corner who has to respect the jet sweep fake first.

Best used on early downs or in run heavy personnel situations where the defense is more likely to key run support, pair it in a call sheet with Reload HB Sweep or Read Option to keep linebackers guessing between run and shot play.
