PA Jet Sweep opens with jet motion across the backfield to sell the sweep fake before the QB pulls it back and works a play-action passing concept off the run action. Off the fake, the backside receiver runs a deep comeback breaking outside, the inline TE releases on a deep crosser toward the opposite sideline, and the outside WR at the top of the formation runs a deep corner route, while underneath a shallow drag crosses the field on the blue route from the slot. The primary read progresses from the deep corner route first, then works down to the crossing TE, and checks down to the shallow drag if both are covered, making this a play-action shot play designed to beat aggressive run defense and man coverage that bites on the jet sweep fake.
Key the flow of the linebackers immediately after the snap, since if they bite hard on the jet motion and crash toward the sweep side, that confirms the play-action window is open for the corner and crosser routes. Watch the safety to the corner route side pre-snap, since a two-high shell forces the QB to hold the ball longer and gives your pass rush more time to disrupt the fake. Identify any user-controlled defender spying the backfield or sitting in a shallow zone, since that defender can jump the underneath drag route on the check down. Cover 3 with an aggressive box will get gashed by the deep corner route if the flat defender steps up on the fake instead of staying deep. Man coverage with no safety help over the top is the alignment that gets exposed the worst here, since the corner and TE crosser routes both create instant separation once the underneath defenders commit to run support.
Use this play on early downs like 1st or 2nd and short to medium when defenses are keyed up to stop the run and linebackers are sitting in the box. Watch pre-snap for safeties creeping down into run support or cornerbacks playing tight run fits, since that indicates the play-action fake will hold the defense long enough for the corner and crosser routes to develop. If the defense shows single high safety, prioritize the deep corner route since it attacks the space vacated by the rotating safety. Against man coverage, the deep crossing TE route is your best man beater since it creates natural separation working across the field. Pair this play with Zone Fake Jet or Reload HB Sweep earlier in a series so the defense starts keying jet motion as an actual run threat, which sets up the play-action fake here to hit for a big shot down the field.
