Wheel Switch aligns out of Shotgun Normal Y Off Close with a bunch look to the closed side and a receiver stacked wide to the open side. The bunch releases a switch concept where the inside receiver runs a corner route straight up the numbers while the flat runner underneath bends into a wheel route up the sideline, and the backside receiver runs a deep crosser to clear space on the far side. The lone open side receiver runs an out and comeback breaking hard away from the formation to hold the flat defender. This is a man beater built on the switch release to confuse man defenders and create a natural pick, so the primary read is the wheel route working outside to inside, then the corner route sitting behind it, with the deep cross as the last resort against busted coverage.

Defensive Reads

Check for a single high safety and tight man alignment on the bunch receivers pre-snap, this confirms man coverage that the switch release is designed to exploit. Watch the flat or curl defender assigned to the bunch, if he chases the underneath route across the formation instead of staying with his man the wheel route will be wide open. Cover 3 with an aggressive curl to flat defender is the biggest threat to this play since he can undercut the wheel route before it clears the line. Post snap, identify any user controlled defender lurking in the shallow zone near the switch release, a smart user can jump the crossing route and blow up the concept. Two deep safety shells with disciplined zone drops can shut this down since the corner route has nowhere to work and the wheel route runs into help over the top.

Usage Tips

Look for man coverage indicators pre-snap like tight press corners or a single high safety before snapping this since the switch release is designed to confuse man defenders through natural traffic.

Motion check the flat defender assigned to the bunch, if he is late to react or bites on the initial stem the wheel route will win outright up the sideline.

Use the comeback route on the backside as a built in hot route answer against zone drops if the switch concept gets jammed at the line.

Pair this with Fk Jet Y Wheel or Fake Jet Y Wheel earlier in a drive so defenders start keying jet motion, then hit them with Wheel Switch to expose overaggressive flat defenders.

Best called on second and medium or third and long when you expect man coverage and want a home run shot off the wheel route.
