Defensive Reads
Watch for a single high safety pre-snap, which suggests man coverage underneath and sets up the wheel route as the primary target. If a linebacker or nickel defender walks up on the running back before the snap, expect them to struggle covering the wheel route vertically. Zone coverage with two deep safeties can bracket the corner route and wheel, so look for a defender sitting in the flat to jump the underneath out route. User controlled defenders lurking near the numbers can jump the switch release rub route, so be ready to move to the wheel route quickly if you see a user closing on the corner route. Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge can disrupt the quarterback's ability to climb the pocket and hit the wheel route on time, so account for edge pressure in your protection calls.

Use this play on early downs or second and medium when defenses are not expecting a designed shot play off a switch concept.
Check pre-snap for man coverage indicators like press corners or a single high safety, since the switch release is designed to confuse man defenders with the rub at the top of the route.
If you see a linebacker walked up over the running back, expect the wheel route to win easily against man coverage, so prioritize that route in your progression.
Pair this play with Fake Jet Y Wheel or Mtn Angle Y Wheel earlier in a drive so defenders start keying on wheel action, then hit them with this switch concept for a big play.
Against zone shells, hot route the backside slot to a shallow drag or use the corner route as a zone beater against Cover 3 by throwing it into the deep third before the safety can rotate over.
