Breakdown

Reload PA Shake Bubble is a play-action pass out of Normal Y Off Close in Shotgun with 11 personnel, using a play fake to hold the linebackers before the QB works a shake concept to the open side with a bubble screen check to the boundary. The shake route (a hitch to corner or shake to the sideline) attacks off man coverage and creates natural separation against off corners, while the bubble gives you a built-in answer against soft zone drops or blitz looks. Primary progression starts with the shake/deep route on the play side, then works down to the bubble screen if the underneath defenders sit deep or if you get a hot pressure look presnap.

Defensive Reads

Check the corner over the shake route presnap, if he is playing off with outside leverage the shake to the sideline will be wide open on the double move. Watch the play side safety depth, a two high shell with soft corners is the ideal shell for this concept since it removes the deep help needed to jump the shake route. Against Cover 3 or Cover 4 zone drops, key the flat defender, if he sinks with the play fake the bubble screen has a clean lane to the flat. Identify blitz packages presnap by counting the box defenders, if the defense shows six or more in the box expect immediate pressure and prioritize the bubble as a hot throw. Beware of user lurk defenders sitting in the shallow zone or spying the play fake, a smart user player can jump the bubble route so keep the shake route as your primary answer if you see the user crash down early.

Usage Tips

Use presnap motion to identify man versus zone before the snap, if the defender follows the motion man you have a green light for the shake route since it is a strong man beater.

Throw the bubble screen immediately versus Cover 0 or any presnap blitz indicator since the play fake will not hold enough defenders and you need a quick answer.

Pair this play with Reload PA Cross and Reload Mesh Spot from the same set so the defense has to respect multiple play-action shots off identical formation and motion, keeping linebackers honest.

Best called on early downs (1st and 10, 2nd and short to medium) when defenses are more willing to bite on the run fake, giving the shake route more room to develop.

If the corner plays a hard press with no help over the top, hot route the shake to a quick out or slant to beat the jam instead of forcing the double move.
