Jet Pass Fk Zone is a jet motion play-action style pass out of Shotgun Normal Y Off Close that sells the jet sweep fake before releasing into a single deep route to the boundary. The diagram shows one receiver running a fake jet motion across the backfield and out to the flat before turning the corner and stemming vertically up the sideline, while the offensive line shows a run blocking look to sell the sweep. The primary read is the outside receiver breaking on the sideline route as he clears the flat defender, with the quarterback keying the flow of the second level defenders to see if they bite on the fake jet action before delivering the ball down the field.
Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is showing man coverage with a corner shaded outside or zone coverage with a flat defender sitting underneath, since the sideline route needs soft coverage to hit cleanly Watch linebacker depth and edge defender leverage, if they are crashing down hard on jet sweep tendencies the play action window opens up for the vertical route Post-snap, key the flat or curl defender in zone coverage, if he sinks with the vertical route and does not bite on the fake jet action the throwing window shrinks significantly This play struggles against disciplined zone shells like Cover 3 or Cover 4 where defenders stay home and do not overreact to the jet fake, since there is no secondary route to work back to Aggressive man blitzes or nano blitzes can beat this play at the snap since the fake jet action does not hold extra blockers, so watch for pressure off the edge before committing to the vertical read
Use this play on early downs when the defense has shown aggressive run fits or fast-flow linebackers against jet sweep motion in prior snaps
Motion the jet man pre-snap and watch the flow of the linebackers and safeties, if they crash hard toward the fake sweep action you have a clean vertical shot down the sideline
Hot route the underneath receivers into quick outs or hitches if the defense shows a two high shell that discourages the deep shot, this keeps the play flexible against zone drops
Pair this play in sequence with Fake Jet Y Wheel and Zone Fake Jet from the same set so the defense has to respect multiple jet action fakes, setting up the explosive sideline shot later in the series
Best used on second and short or first down to punish defenses selling out to stop the run, since the play design bluffs run commitment before attacking vertically
