Defensive Reads
Identify if the defense is showing a stacked box with 7 or more defenders, which signals user aggression against the run and should send you to a play-action or RPO from this set instead Watch the play side defensive tackle and end for slant or crash calls that can blow up the frontside combo block before it develops Key the middle linebacker's depth and flow at the snap since a fast downhill trigger from him can close the cutback lane the HB needs Look for user-controlled defenders spying the A gap or shooting a nano blitz through the interior, which this play struggles against without a hot route adjustment This run is countered by heavy zone blitz packages and gap-exchange fronts but consistently gains yardage against base 4-3 or 3-4 fronts playing straight zone coverage behind it
Usage Tips
Check the box count before the snap and only run this into 6 or fewer defenders in the box for a numbers advantage
Use pre-snap motion sparingly here since the play relies on the natural zone blocking scheme rather than misdirection
Hot route the backside WR into a quick slant or drag if you see off coverage to hold the backside safety honest
