Jet Touch Pass is a jet motion touch pass out of Shotgun Tight Y Off with 11 personnel. Pre-snap the WR goes in jet motion across the formation and the offensive line shows a quick pass set while a slot receiver runs a shallow drag underneath the jet man to sell the sweep look. The QB has a quick touch throw to the jet motion man as the primary read, with the crossing drag route serving as a secondary check if the flow defender jumps the jet action. This is a run-pass option style touch pass designed to beat aggressive flow and overpursuing linebackers rather than a true drop back passing concept.
Defensive Reads
Check if the defense shows man coverage with the corner following the jet motion man across the formation, that alignment invites the touch pass into open grass. Look for linebackers flowing hard with the jet action pre-snap, aggressive flow defenses get gashed by this concept every time. Zone shells with a linebacker sitting in the throwing lane or spying the motion man will shut this down, so check the drag route as your outlet in that case. Post-snap watch for a user controlled defender flying downhill on the jet motion, if they overcommit the crossing drag route behind them is wide open. Disciplined defenses that stay home and play contain on the edge take away the touch pass window and force you into the secondary drag read.
Usage Tips
Use this on early downs when you need to keep the defense honest against your jet sweep and RPO packages in this set. Watch pre-snap for linebackers cheating toward the jet motion side, that flow tells you the touch pass will hit for easy yards in space. Run this in sequence after calling Fake Jet HB Seam or Read Option so the defense starts keying run action and bites on the motion before you pull the touch pass. Hot route the crossing drag receiver deeper if you see a defender sitting flat footed in the flow lane, it opens a bigger throwing window. Best used on first and second down in space friendly situations, avoid third and long since this concept caps out as a short gain play.
