Doubles Shot is a play action pass out of Shotgun Tight Y Off with 11 personnel that creates a vertical flood to the offense's right and a corner-post combo to the left. The play side backer runs a corner route to the boundary while the middle receiver breaks off a shallow out that sits underneath, and the slot receiver on that side climbs up the seam to the deep third, stretching the right side of the field from underneath to over the top. On the boundary, the outside receiver runs a skinny post while the tight end works a quick out flat, giving a two man smash concept against the corner. The primary read starts with the deep seam versus the flood side safety, then works down to the out and finally back to the post if the safety jumps the seam.

Defensive Reads

Watch the play side safety before the snap, if he is shaded deep middle expect him to rotate down on the seam route which opens up the post on the backside. Usage Tips

Use this on early downs when you want a play action shot that still gives you a checkdown against zone blitzes. Pre-snap, identify if the defense is showing two high or single high safety look, since this play is built to attack Cover 3 rotation with the flood concept. If the corner sits on the flat route, hot route the seam receiver to push vertical faster and take away the safety before he can get depth. Against man coverage, the skinny post is your best man beater since it creates natural separation off the break, so shift your first read there if you see man leverage at the line. Pair this play with Flood Drive or Mtn Y-Corner in the same set to keep defenders guessing on whether you are attacking underneath or over the top on consecutive snaps.
