Breakdown

Jet Pass Fk Zone is a play-action zone fake off jet motion that holds the second and third level defenders before releasing the quarterback into a zone read passing concept. The jet sweep fake pulls linebackers and safeties toward the perimeter while the offensive line executes an outside zone blocking scheme, opening throwing lanes over the vacated middle. This is primarily a zone beater since it attacks the seams and voided underneath areas created by linebacker flow, with the primary read progression starting at the crossing route or seam threat that opens up behind the second level flow before working back to the check down out of the backfield.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, identify single high versus two high safety shells since Cover 3 and Cover 1 defenses tend to bite harder on the jet fake, leaving the deep middle exposed for the primary crosser. Watch linebacker depth and gap alignment before the snap, if they are stacked tight to the line expecting run support they will not get depth in time to cover the zone breaking routes behind them. Post-snap, track the flow of the second level defenders, if both inside linebackers step toward the jet motion the middle of the field opens for the primary read. Beware Cover 4 quarters shells and disciplined zone match defenses that keep linebackers in their drops regardless of the run fake, this eliminates the space the play is designed to create. User controlled lurk defenders sitting in the middle hook zone can jump the primary route, so have a check down or outlet ready if you see a defender spying the play fake instead of respecting it.

Usage Tips

Send the jet motion before the snap and watch how the defense reacts, if linebackers or a safety crash down hard on the motion man you know zone fake concepts like this will hit big over the middle. Use this on early downs like first or second and medium to keep defenses honest against your run heavy zone scheme without giving up explosive play potential. Hot route the underneath crosser into a deeper sit route against zone shells with deep safety help sitting at ten to twelve yards to create natural picture reads for the quarterback. Pair this with Zone Fake Jet and Fake Jet HB Seam in the same set so the defense cannot key run versus pass off the jet motion alone. If the defense starts jumping the play-action fake and sprint blitzing off the edge, counter with RPO Zone Peek or Read Option out of the same personnel to keep the pre-snap picture identical.
