RPO Zone Peek

Watch linebacker depth at the snap since shallow, aggressive linebackers crashing downhill are exactly what triggers the peek throw read for the quarterback. Check safety alignment pre-snap, a single high safety or two-high shell that rotates down into the box opens up the peek window over the vacated area. If the defense shows man coverage on the peek receiver with no help underneath, expect the quarterback to throw since the leverage almost always favors the route. Blitzing off the edge does not usually beat this play since the conflict defender is the one being read, so overloaded fronts with extra second level pressure are more effective at shutting down both options. User-controlled defenders sitting on the peek route or spying the run fit can bait the quarterback into a bad decision, so disciplined zone defenders who stay square rather than committing early are the best counter.
