Mtn Y-Corner is a Shotgun 11 personnel play-action style pass concept out of Tight Y Off that starts with a jet motion man crossing the backfield pre-snap before running an underneath drag route to the flat. The Y (tight end) runs the namesake corner route off the top of the formation, the backside receiver runs a deep vertical clear-out route, and the remaining receiver on the corner side runs a short out into the flat underneath the TE's corner. Blocking up front is a standard pass protection look with the offensive line sliding to pick up the rush, making this a man beater that stresses the flat to corner high-low read against man coverage on the TE.
Defensive Reads
Watch the cornerback over the Y at the snap, if he stays outside leverage he is likely playing man and the corner route will win with a good stem Key the safety to the TE side pre-snap, a single high safety rotating late signals man coverage underneath which favors the corner route over the flat If the motion man is chased across the formation by a linebacker or nickel defender, that confirms man coverage and the underneath drag should be picked off in the progression Cover 3 zone defenders sitting deep can take away the corner route, so look to check down to the flat route sooner against three deep shells A disguised blitz off the strong side edge is the biggest threat to this concept, so identify the extra rusher pre-snap and get the ball out on the quick flat route if the protection is outnumbered
Usage Tips
Use the jet motion pre-snap to identify if the defense is playing man or zone by watching if a defender follows the motion man across the formation
This play hits best on second and medium to third and medium since the corner route needs a full stem to separate downfield
Progress your read from the flat route underneath to the Y corner route working the sideline, then check the deep vertical clear-out only if the safety bites on the shallow routes

If the corner blitzes off the edge on the TE side, get the ball out quickly to the flat route since the protection will be outnumbered
