RPO Alert Out is a run pass option out of Shotgun Normal Y Off Close that pairs an inside run fit with a boundary out route from the outside receiver. The diagram shows the X receiver breaking hard to the flat/out at a shallow depth while the TE and HB run a shake style route combo underneath to hold linebackers, giving the QB a clean pre snap alert read to the out. This is a zone beater by design since the out route sits in the flat window that most zone shells vacate when linebackers step up to respect the run action, and the primary read progression is run key first (numbers box read), then immediate eyes to the alert out if the corner or flat defender bites on the run fake.

Heavy blitz packages that crash extra defenders into the box favor the run alert since the out route defender is often pulled inside pre snap.

Usage Tips

Use your pre snap alert key (usually triangle or Y button) to lock your run/pass decision before the snap based on the box count.

If the defense shows a light box with 6 or fewer defenders, take the run automatically and let the RPO cook underneath.

If the corner or flat defender is sitting inside expecting run support, throw the out route immediately off the snap for a quick, safe gain.

Pair this call with Read Option or Inside Zone from the same personnel group so the defense cannot sit on the run fit without opening up the out route.

Best used on early downs (1st and 10, 2nd and short) to keep the defense honest and force linebackers to respect both the QB run threat and the perimeter throw.
