Breakdown

Triple Out is a horizontal stretch concept out of Shotgun Bunch TE that sends all three bunch receivers on out breaking routes stacked at different depths, while the backside receiver runs a deep vertical seam to hold the safety and the HB releases on a check release flare into the flat. The QB is protected by a five man slide with the HB scanning for blitz help before releasing. This is a zone beater designed to attack cover 2 and cover 3 by flooding the sideline with three defenders in short, intermediate, and deep out zones at once, and the primary read progression starts with the deepest out route working down to the shortest out based on the flow of the underneath zone defenders.

Defensive Reads

Look for cover 3 or cover 2 shells pre snap since the three stacked out routes are designed to overload one side of the underneath zone Watch the flow of the cornerback and outside linebacker on the bunch side, if they sink too deep on the vertical threat the shallow out will be wide open Beware of a user controlled defender sitting in the flat or lurking underneath, this play struggles against a robbed zone with an extra defender jumping the shortest out route Man coverage with press corners can disrupt the bunch releases and clog the out routes at the line, so check for man alignment before committing to this concept A fast blitzing linebacker off the edge on the HB side can beat the slide protection quickly, so track linebacker depth and blitz indicators before the snap

Usage Tips

Use this play on second and medium to third and short where the sideline stack of out routes gives you an easy chain mover against zone drops

Check the safety alignment pre snap, if you see two high shells the vertical route on the backside will hold the safety and open up all three outs underneath

Hot route the HB to a flat route or keep him in as extra protection if the defense shows a heavy pressure look with six or more in the box

Pair this play with Bunch Levels or Mtn Return Flood Stick in your play calling sequence since both attack similar horizontal zones but change the timing and depth to keep the defense guessing

Against man coverage look to the vertical route first since the bunch out routes can get picked or jammed at the release point in tight man alignments
