Breakdown

Inside Zone out of Shotgun Bunch TE is a straightforward zone run play designed to hit through the interior of the defensive front. The offensive line executes a zone blocking scheme, stepping in unison to the play side and reading the defensive front's flow before climbing to the second level, with the HB reading the double team and cutback lanes off the guards and center. This is not a play-action or RPO look, it is a pure run concept, and the primary read progression is a one cut decision: the ball carrier presses the play side gap, reads the block on the first down lineman, and either cuts back against overpursuit or bounces if the alley opens.

Defensive Reads

Watch the middle linebacker's alignment pre-snap, if he is stacked directly over the center expect a quick fill and consider using the cutback lane. Identify whether the defense is in a base 4-3 or 3-4 front, since heavier fronts with extra defenders in the box will clog the interior gaps this play targets. Post-snap, key the play side defensive tackle's gap discipline, if he crashes hard inside the cutback lane opens for a big gain. User-controlled defenders flowing too aggressively to the play side create the cutback opportunity, so watch for that lurking linebacker overcommitting. This play struggles against stacked fronts with extra run support at linebacker depth, and blitz packages that send extra rushers through the A and B gaps will blow this up before the line can climb to the second level.

Usage Tips

Run this on early downs like first and ten or second and short to keep defenses honest against a run heavy personnel grouping.

Check the defensive front pre-snap for light boxes, six defenders or fewer in the box is a green light to run Inside Zone right at them.

Use the HB's vision, not the play design, to pick the correct gap, since Inside Zone in Madden lets you cut back if the play side is stacked.

Pair this with Mtn PA Cross Switch or Boomerang PA Y Wheel from the same Bunch TE set to sell run action and hit explosive shots off the same personnel and formation look.

Avoid calling this into stacked eight man fronts or overload blitz packages, since the interior gaps get clogged fast with no lead blocker on tag.
