Breakdown

Mtn Spacing lines up from Bunch TE with a pre-snap motion piece sweeping across the formation from the bunch side to the open side, giving you a full-field horizontal read before the snap. Off the snap the bunch releases into a spacing concept: one receiver runs a shallow out at the sticks, a second sits underneath in the middle read area, and the vertical route on the backside stems up the seam before breaking outside for a deep comeback-style pattern. This is a zone beater built to attack Cover 3 and Cover 4 by stretching the underneath defenders horizontally with the spacing route while the vertical stem occupies the deep third or quarter defender, and the primary read progression starts with the motion man on the flat, works to the shallow out, then climbs to the deep outside breaking route if the zone defenders overcommit underneath.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, watch how the defense reacts to the motion man crossing the field, a defender mirroring the motion signals man coverage and tells you to expect a natural rub or pick opportunity Check safety depth before the snap, two deep safeties splitting the field wide usually means Cover 4 and the backside comeback will be open late If the cornerback on the vertical route bails hard at the snap that is a zone shell tip, sit the shallow out route down in the void behind him Watch for a user controlled linebacker sitting in the shallow zone read area, an aggressive user lurking there can jump the underneath spacing route and bait a turnover This concept struggles against disguised man match coverage where defenders trail the bunch release, if you see trailing defenders stack behind the receivers instead of dropping into zones, get off this play or hot route to a quick option route to counter the man leverage

Usage Tips

Use the pre-snap motion to identify if the defense is playing zone or man, if a defender follows the motion man across the formation you know its man coverage and you should hot route into a different concept

Against Cover 3, target the shallow out and spacing routes since the flat defender cannot cover both the motion man and the underneath spacing route at the same time

Against Cover 4, the deep comeback route on the backside is your best shot since the outside cornerback in a quarters shell often sits soft and bites on the initial vertical stem

Run this on second and medium or third and short since the quick spacing throws convert easily and the deep shot is there if the defense sells out on the underneath stuff

Pair this with Mtn Fork Y-Corner or Mtn TE Corner out of the same Bunch TE set so the defense has to respect the vertical shot every time it sees the bunch alignment, keeping safeties honest
