Pistol Wing Slot is the 12 personnel gadget hub of the Pistol family, and it separates itself from Pistol Y Trips or Pistol Bunch TE by splitting the tight ends into two different jobs: one plays as a wing off the tackle to the strong side while the other flexes into the slot with a receiver stacked outside. That alignment gives you a run-first look with a built in flexed mismatch, because the slot tight end is usually covered by a safety or a nickel who has to respect the run gap first. The quarterback sits four yards deep with the back directly behind him, so run reads stay balanced and the defense cannot cheat a side off backfield alignment.
Establish Strong Power and HB Counter early so linebackers commit downhill, then run PA Ctr Waggle and PA Deep Out off the same run action for wide open intermediate throws.
Check the alignment over the flexed tight end pre snap: if a linebacker walks out, run Y Stick or Dagger and target him, and if a safety rotates down, hit Posts or Four Verticals behind the rotation.
On second and medium, motion the jet man and read the linebacker flow. If he chases, hand it inside on Zone Fake Jet. If he stays home, take the perimeter with Jet Touch Pass.
Hot route the wing tight end to a flat or drag on Hitch Corners against man press to create a natural rub, and audible the back to a block if you see extra bodies in the box.
Use HB Slip Screen and PA Jailbreak Screen after you have run the ball hard on early downs, since the defensive line will be crashing and the screens turn aggression into chunk yardage.
