Jet Pass Fk Zone is a jet motion fake off the Pistol Wing Slot 12 personnel look, using the pre-snap jet motion to freeze linebackers before working the outside receiver on a wheel style route to the flat and up the sideline. The single receiver split wide runs the vertical breakout arrow while the offensive line stays in and picks up protection, giving the quarterback a quick half field read to the boundary. This is a play-action fake jet concept and zone beater designed to punish flowed up defenders and light corners on the perimeter.
Defensive Reads
Watch for cornerbacks sitting outside with inside leverage, this signals zone coverage and opens the sideline throwing lane for the arrow route. If the flat defender widens with the jet motion and does not sink, that is your green light to release into the vertical breakout immediately after the fake. Key the play side linebacker depth at the snap, if he crashes hard toward the fake jet motion he is out of position to defend the flat to sideline route. Watch for a user controlled defender sitting in the shallow hook or lurking near the arrow route stem, this indicates the defense is baiting the fake jet action and can jump the throw. Cover 3 and Cover 4 shells with aggressive flat defenders are the most vulnerable, while Cover 2 with disciplined corners staying deep can take away the sideline shot and force a checkdown.
Usage Tips
Use the jet fake to bait linebackers into flowing hard toward the motion before the ball comes out to the arrow route breaking upfield. Best called on early downs or in run heavy tendencies where the defense has shown a tendency to key motion and crash down. Check the flat defender and curl to flat zone defender before the snap, if either is sitting deep the arrow route window shrinks. Pair this with Zone Fake Jet and Jet Touch Pass from the same set so the defense cannot key jet motion as a run tell, keeping them honest on outside contain. Hot route the backside tight end into a quick out or drag if the defense shows heavy zone drop to the play side, giving you a checkdown against a spy or hook defender.
