Jet Dash Wk is a jet sweep run out of the Pistol Wing Slot 12 personnel look, designed to get the wing receiver moving pre-snap on the jet motion and hand it off for an outside run to the weak side. The blocking scheme pulls the playside tackle or guard to seal the edge while the TEs work down blocks and kick outs to spring the ball carrier to the perimeter. This is a run play built on misdirection speed rather than a man or zone beater concept, so the primary read is the edge: get skinny off the jet motion, read the kick out block on the corner or SAM, and decide between bouncing outside or cutting up through the alley based on how the edge defender is blocked.

Defensive Reads

Check the alignment of the weak side outside linebacker or SAM before the snap, if he is crashing hard downhill on motion recognition this run gets blown up immediately. Watch for defensive ends and edge defenders staying home instead of following the jet motion, that indicates a disciplined scrape exchange or spill technique designed to string the run out to the sideline. Cover 3 and Cover 1 shells with aggressive flow to motion are the most vulnerable to this play since the extra hat is removed from the box on the snap read. Bear fronts, heavy blitz packages, and defenses that key the jet motion with a spy or contain player will shut this down, especially if the defense uses a scrape exchange technique on the edge. Post-snap, identify whether the user is playing the QB fake or crashing on the actual ball carrier, since a user who bites on the jet motion fake leaves the alley wide open for a big gain.

Usage Tips

Use the jet motion pre-snap to see if the defense shifts a linebacker or defensive back to follow the motion man, which tells you if you are dealing with man principles or a base run fit.

Run this on early downs (1st and 10, 2nd and short to medium) when the defense is showing a light box or has bit on previous inside run calls like HB Dive or HB Power O.

If the defense stacks the weak edge with an extra defender post motion, consider audibling to HB Power G or Strong Power to attack the opposite strength instead of forcing the jet run into a loaded front.

Pair Jet Dash Wk with Jet Touch Pass and Jet PA Slot Screen in your play-calling sequence so the defense has to respect the jet action every snap, opening up boot and screen counters once they start crashing hard on motion.

User the playside TE or wing blocker to secure the edge defender manually if you see a fast flowing linebacker, since AI blocking can whiff on space blocks against quick defenders.
