PA Ctr Waggle is a play-action rollout out of the Pistol Wing Slot set that sells a center run fake before the QB waggles to the boundary. On the diagram, both outside receivers push vertical up the seams as go routes, the inline TE runs a quick out to the flat as the underneath check, and the slot runs a crossing route underneath that settles into the middle of the field as the waggle develops. This is a play-action boot designed to attack zone defenses by putting stress on the flat and hole defender while giving two vertical shots on the outside, with the primary read starting on the flat route, moving to the deep crosser, and progressing to the vertical routes if the pocket and edge stay clean.

Defensive Reads

Watch linebacker depth and flow at the snap, if they crash hard toward the run fake the flat and crosser will be wide open behind them. Identify single high versus two high safety shells before the snap, single high leaves the crosser more vulnerable to a spy or hole defender. Beware of edge pressure or a contain defender crashing the boot side, since this play is vulnerable to a well timed nano blitz off the edge that collapses the pocket before the QB can set up. If corners press and stay outside leverage on the vertical routes, look for the underneath flat and cross combo instead of forcing the deep ball. Zone defenses with a hard flat drop from the corner can take away the shallow route, so track the deep crosser as your counter punch against those coverages.

Usage Tips

Run this on early downs or third and short to sell the run fake convincingly against defenses keying on your ground game tendencies.

Check the flat route first since it is the quickest developing throw against zone drops and buys time to climb the progression.

If you see two deep safeties post snap, expect the crosser to work into a soft spot in the middle, so be ready to hit it before linebackers can wall it off.

Use the rollout to your advantage against man coverage by keeping the vertical routes on the boot side as home run shots if the corner bites on the run fake.

Pair this with HB Power O or HB Slam from the same set earlier in a series so the defense respects the run action, then hit this waggle to punish overaggressive linebacker flow.
