Mtn PA Cross is a play-action pass out of Shotgun Spread Y-Slot Wk that uses a run fake to hold the linebackers before the quarterback works a deep crossing concept. The play diagram shows the deep crosser sitting from the far left releasing across the field on a deep dig, an inside receiver running a skinny post into the intermediate zone, and both outside receivers on the right pushed vertically on go routes to clear out the top of the coverage while a tight end or back checks the flat underneath. This is a man beater at its core since the crosser creates natural separation against man defenders trailing across the field, but it also holds up against single high zone looks because the vertical routes stress the deep defenders. Defensive Reads

Sell the play action fake fully by letting the animation play out before pulling into your reads, since a rushed fake tips off run blitzers and speeds up the defensive line pass rush.

Use pre-snap motion on the receiver running the deep crosser to identify man versus zone before the snap, since a defender following the motion man reveals man coverage and opens up the crossing route.

Hot route the flat route to a quick out or spot route in third and short situations to give yourself a faster underneath answer if the safeties jump the crossers.

Pair this play with Mtn HB Swing or HB Screen earlier in a drive so the linebackers respect the run action and bite harder on the fake when you come back to Mtn PA Cross.
