RPO Zone Peek is a run pass option out of Shotgun Doubles with 11 personnel that pairs an inside zone run scheme with a quick peek route (typically a bubble or quick out) to the slot receiver. The offensive line executes zone run blocking while the QB reads a designated second level defender, usually the playside linebacker or overhang defender, to decide whether to hand the ball off or pull and throw the peek. This is an RPO built to punish light boxes and aggressive linebacker flow, making it both a run beater against zone fits and a zone beater in the passing game since the peek route attacks space vacated by fast flowing linebackers.

Usage Tips

Check the box count before the snap and if the defense shows six or more in the box favor pulling the ball for the peek throw immediately at the snap

Use this play on early downs like first and second down to stay ahead of the sticks since the peek is a safe, high percentage completion when the run is taken away

Key on the playside linebacker's first step, if he crashes hard toward the run flow snap the ball out to the peek before he can redirect

Pair this with straight Inside Zone or HB Counter earlier in a series so the defense commits to stopping the run, then come back to RPO Zone Peek to punish overaggressive linebacker flow

Against man coverage on the slot defender, the peek throw can still work but consider audibling to RPO Peek Slant or Double Slants if the corner is playing tight leverage
