Spot N Go is a Cover 3 beater out of Shotgun Doubles 11 personnel that combines the classic Spot concept (flat, hitch, and corner route working underneath) with a vertical Go route from one of the outside receivers to stretch the deep third defender. The Go route occupies the corner or deep third safety while the spot combo underneath attacks the flat defender and hook defender with layered depth. Primary read progression starts with the deep Go route on a pre-snap shell check, then works down to the corner route sitting behind the flat defender, and finally checks down to the flat route or hitch if the underneath windows are closed.
Identify single high safety alignment pre-snap since Spot N Go is designed to exploit the natural void in Cover 3 between the corner and the deep third safety. Watch the flat defender post-snap, if he sits and reads the quarterback's eyes he can jump the corner route, so be ready to reset to the flat or hitch. Key the corner to flat linebacker drop, a slow or shallow drop opens up the corner route window, while a fast drop to the flat forces the quarterback to the Go route or check down. Against Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells with two deep safeties, the Go route gets bracketed and this play loses its main explosive answer, so expect the offense to check down quickly. Watch for man coverage disguised as zone pre-snap, if the corner mirrors the Go route receiver step for step off the line it signals man beat concepts are needed instead of this zone beater.
Check the safety alignment before the snap to confirm single high or two high, since Spot N Go loses value against true two high shells that can double the Go route.
Use the Go route as a clear out against Cover 3 to isolate the corner route in the void behind the curl to flat defender, and only progress to the flat route if the linebacker sinks too deep.
Hot route the flat route to a slant or drag against man coverage if you see the corner shaded outside with no safety help over the top.
Best called on second and medium to second and long when defenses are more likely to sit in zone shells rather than bring pressure.
Pair this play with Curl Flats or Curls Slot Shake earlier in a series to condition the defense into sitting on underneath zone drops, then hit the Go route for an explosive shot play once they bite.
