Play diagram for Deep Outs from Shotgun Doubles in Madden 27

Quick Reference

Breakdown

Deep Outs from Shotgun Doubles is a full field concept built around two out breaking routes to the boundary and field, with an inside route working as a hot beater underneath. The outside receiver to the left runs a deep out at the top of his stem while the trips side receiver mirrors with a deep out to the right, and the slot receiver on the left runs a quick out and up stutter to occupy underneath defenders. This is a classic zone beater that attacks the seams between deep quarter and half zones, and against man coverage it relies on the out breaking routes creating separation on the sideline break. The primary read progression starts with the deep out to the trips side since it isolates the corner, then works back to the boundary out route, using the underneath route as a checkdown if both outs are covered.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, identify two high safeties since that usually signals Cover 2 or Cover 4, both of which struggle to defend the out breaking routes if the corners play soft technique. Watch the flat defenders and hook zone linebackers after the snap, because if they sink too deep into the middle of the field they leave the sideline outs wide open for an easy pitch and catch. Man coverage with no safety help over the top is the biggest bust risk since a good route runner can stack the corner and separate hard on the out cut. User controlled defenders sitting in a low hole or lurking at the sticks can jump the trips side out route, so if you see a defender cheat toward that landmark, work the check down or the boundary out instead. Cover 3 cloud or Cover 6 rotations that bracket the outside receivers will squeeze the timing window, so be ready to climb the pocket and throw with anticipation rather than waiting for full separation.

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion or a hot route audible on the inside receiver to confirm man versus zone before the snap. Attack this play against Cover 3 and Cover 4 shells since the out breaking routes settle into the void behind the flat defenders and in front of the deep thirds or quarters. On third and medium to long, this play is ideal because both outs sit at a depth that consistently converts, so trust the timing over the sideline outs even under pressure. Pair Deep Outs with Curl Flats or Curls Slot Shake out of the same Doubles set to keep the defense guessing between out breaking and curl breaking concepts. If the defense starts jumping the outs after tape study, switch into Double Slants or Mesh from this personnel grouping to hit the same underneath spacing with a different angle.
