Fake Jet Pass Power lines up out of Shotgun Doubles with 11 personnel and shows a jet motion fake across the backfield before the QB works a quick swing/flat combo to the boundary. The diagram shows the outside receiver running a short out to the flat while the inner receiver releases underneath and works back to the ball on a shallow drag, with the line sliding to protect against edge pressure after the jet fake sells run action. This is a play-action, high-percentage zone beater designed to attack flat defenders and linebackers who bite on the jet motion, with the primary read being the flat route first and the underneath drag as the checkdown/second read.
Key on the linebackers at the snap, if they crash hard on the jet motion or bite on the play-action fake, both the flat and drag routes will open up immediately. This play beats zone coverages like Cover 3 and Cover 4 that rely on linebackers to react late, since the flat defender is often out of position from the run fake. Man coverage with a physical corner on the flat receiver can shut this down quickly if he sits on the short route and denies the catch point. Watch for a user-controlled linebacker sitting in the shallow zone or spying the flat, that defender can jump the primary route and turn it into a turnover. A disciplined slot defender who stays home in Cover 2 or Cover 6 can take away both the flat and drag reads, forcing the QB to hold the ball and check down late.
Use this on early downs or third and short when you want to bait linebackers with the jet fake and pick up an easy completion underneath.
Check the pre-snap coverage shell, if you see linebackers cheating toward the jet motion side, the flat route will be wide open immediately off the snap.
Against man coverage, hot route the flat man into a quick speed out to create separation before the defender can recover from the run fake.
Pair this with Jet Touch Pass and Inside Zone Read Opt in the same set to keep defenses honest, once they start jumping run fakes this play punishes them with easy yardage.
Best used in early down and distance situations to set up explosive play-action shots later in the drive off the same jet motion look.
