Breakdown

SFT Bounce Mesh Drive out of Bunch X Nasty features a mesh concept underneath with two crossing routes working opposite directions at the second level while a third receiver bends a drive route into the middle of the field. The backside outlet runs a deep corner from the bunch stack, giving you a vertical answer if the mesh gets jammed, while the flat route underneath sits low as a checkdown against a soft zone drop. This is a man beater built to create natural rub traffic through the mesh crossers, and the primary read progression starts with the mesh (whoever clears the traffic first), moves to the drive route sitting down in the window, and finishes with the deep corner as your explosive shot if the safety bites underneath.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, identify if the defense shifts a defender across the formation to match the bunch motion, which signals man coverage and tells you to jump the mesh crossers early. Check safety depth before the snap, since two deep safeties at depth suggest Cover 4 or Cover 2 and open up the drive route sitting in the intermediate window. Post-snap, key the flow of the linebackers on the mesh crossers, because if they sink and wall instead of chasing, the drive route behind them becomes the primary throw. Watch for a user lurk defender sitting in the shallow crossing lanes, since a smart user player can jump the mesh and force you to the corner route or checkdown. This play struggles against disciplined zone drops that stay square and against Cover 3 with a hard buzz to the flat, since that takes away both the mesh window and the checkdown flat.

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion out of the bunch to identify man versus zone before the snap, since a defender following the motion man confirms man coverage and tells you the mesh will win.

Against man coverage, trust the mesh crossers to rub off defenders and take the first open crosser rather than forcing the corner route deep.

Against zone shells like Cover 4, work the drive route into the honey hole behind the shallow zone drops and in front of the deep quarters defenders.

Call this on early downs to set up SFT Bounce Zone Wk or Mesh Spot later in the series, since the mesh window pulls linebacker eyes and sets up cheap completions on repeat mesh looks.

On third and medium, take the checkdown flat route quickly if the mesh is covered to avoid a negative play and live for the next snap.
