Deep Attack lines up in Shotgun Spread Y-Flex with 11 personnel and floods the field with four vertical route stems built to stretch a Cover 3 or single-high shell. The backside receiver runs a deep drag across the field while three receivers to the strong side stack a corner, an out, and a post to create a natural flood read from outside in. This is a zone beater at its core, designed to put stress on the deep third defender and the flat defender simultaneously, and the primary read progression starts with the corner route, works down to the post if the deep defender jumps outside, and checks the deep crosser as the outlet against man coverage or if the pocket collapses.
Identify single high safety alignment before the snap, this is the shell Deep Attack is built to punish with the post shot behind the corner route. Watch the flat defender and deep third corner on the strong side after the snap, if the corner sinks with the post the out route sits in a void for an easy pitch and catch. Beware of Cover 3 sky or buzz variants where a safety rotates down to help in the flat, this can jump the out route and bait a turnover if you force it. Against man coverage looks, key the free safety to see if he rolls over the top, if he does not the deep crosser and post both have big play potential against trail technique. Respect blitz packages that bring five or six rushers, since the deep routes take time to develop, a quick pressure package can force a premature checkdown before routes fully mature.
Check the safety alignment before the snap, if you see a single high safety cheating to the strong side, the post route behind him will be wide open once the corner route pulls the corner and safety width.
Use the corner route as a hard flag to bait Cover 3 corners into staying deep, this opens the out route underneath for an easy completion on third and medium.
Against man coverage, immediately go to the deep crosser since it works away from natural man leverage and creates separation off the initial stem.
Call this on first or second down in shot plays sequences, then pair it with a quick game concept like Curl Flats or Slant Flat later in the series to keep the defense honest on tempo.
If the defense shows two high safeties pre snap, consider switching to Four Verticals from this same set since the numbers advantage favors seam shots over the flood concept.
