Tight Y Off Flex

Tight Y Off Flex is a compact 11 personnel look out of the Pistol. The tight end aligns as an off the ball Y, tucked just outside the tackle, and the receivers sit in reduced flex splits instead of the wide outside alignments seen in sets like Pistol Doubles or Trey Open. Because everyone is tight to the core, defenders have to align inside and closer to the box. That opens the sidelines for out breaking routes, wheels, and switch releases. It also gives you the extra gap and blocking angles a heavier set provides, without subbing in a second tight end.

The play list shows the set's personality. Switch concepts like Deep Post Switch, Bench Switch, and Wheel Switch use stacked or bunched releases to create natural rubs and confuse man defenders on who takes whom. The Cheat family (Cheat Fk Swing Wheel, PA Cheat Post Comeback, Cheat Swing Flat, and Cheat HB Zone) uses pre-snap cheat motion to shift the formation's strength and reveal coverage. Gadgets like Cheat HB Double Pass and Cheat TE Double Pass punish defenders who trigger hard on the motion. The Pistol backfield keeps a downhill HB aligned behind the QB, so HB Zone, HB Zone Wk, Counter Y, and Mtn Pin Pull Sweep all work as a legitimate run game that sets up the play action shots.
