The two outside receivers cross release paths, with one running a deep post and the other breaking vertical up the seam, while the slot runs a deep crosser from the opposite side that stretches the field horizontally underneath. The TE runs a quick pivot out of the backfield area and the HB releases on a wheel route out of the backfield, giving you a five man route concept with layered depth. Defensive Reads

Watch the free safety depth and leverage before the snap, since a shaded safety toward the post side signals help over the top and should push your read to the crossing route or HB wheel. Key the outside cornerback's press or off alignment, because press man coverage on the switch release side often gets rerouted or picked, opening the post for a big play. Post snap, track the middle linebacker or nickel defender assigned to the HB wheel, since a defender who sinks too deep in zone coverage leaves the flat and wheel route wide open for a checkdown. This play struggles against Cover 3 Cloud or Cover 4 Palm concepts where the corner sits on the flat and the safety rotates hard to the post, so be ready to check down quickly if you see this rotation post snap. Beware of user controlled lurk defenders sitting in the middle of the field, since a smart user can jump the crossing route or undercut the post if you telegraph the throw too early.

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion or a hard count to bait linebackers into showing blitz before the snap, since this play needs time to develop the deep routes downfield.

Identify single high safety shells before the snap, because Cover 1 and Cover 3 with a deep third safety struggle to cover the switch release without help from a corner rotating over the top.

If you see Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells with two deep safeties, hot route the post to a dig or have your first read work to the crossing route instead, since the deep post can run into help.

Pair this play with Wheel Switch and Bench Switch in the same set to keep defenders guessing on switch release concepts, then call Deep Post Switch as a change up once the defense starts jumping the shorter routes.
