Singleback Spread is the four wide, one back look inside the Singleback family, running 10 personnel with two receivers to each side and the halfback aligned next to the quarterback. Where Singleback Wing, Bunch, or Tight sets condense the formation and lean on tight end and blocking help, Spread pushes both slot receivers into the numbers and forces the defense to declare its coverage rotation before the snap. That horizontal stretch is the entire point: nickel and dime personnel have to cover grass, and any base defense that stays in 4-3 leaves a linebacker matched on a slot receiver you can attack immediately.
The play art in this set is built around vertical stress and quick horizontal answers. Four Verticals, 60 Go, Seam Option, and 949 Yara punish single high shells by flooding the deep middle and the seams, while Curl Flats, Slant Flats, Comebacks, WR Deep Outs, and Hitch Corners give you clean high low reads against Cover 2 and Cover 3 sink. Switch Smash, Smash Corners, and Smash Posts attack the flat and corner defender at the same time, and Pivot Slants, Slot Pivot, and Inside Cross are your man beaters when the opponent presses and plays Cover 1 Robber underneath.
What makes the set dangerous in Madden is the run and RPO complement. HB Draw, Mtn HB Draw, HB Dive, 0 1 Trap, HB Cutback, Wide Zone, and Wide Zone Wk all attack a defense that has emptied the box to cover four receivers, and HB Draw Bubble plus HB Slash Alert Bubble give you a built in read off the second level flow. The Gadget and SLWR tags mean you can motion a speed receiver into the slot to isolate a linebacker or safety, and the 3DRB tag makes this a natural third down set where your pass catching back gets a matchup on the flat defender out of HB Slip Screen or Bubble Screen.
Read the box first: if the defense shows six or more in the box against 10 personnel, check to HB Draw or 0 1 Trap and let the numbers advantage do the work.
Against single high, live in Four Verticals, 60 Go, and Seam Option, and hot route one slot to a curl or drag if you see the safety cheating over the top.
Against two high, run Smash Corners, Hitch Corners, or Comebacks and work the corner route behind the flat defender rather than forcing the seam.
Use motion from the SLWR tag to identify coverage: if a defender follows across the formation you have man, so audible into Pivot Slants or Inside Cross.
On third down, lean on the 3DRB tag with HB Slip Screen or PA HB Out, and always block or check release the back if the pre snap look shows overload pressure.
