Overview

Bunch Base is the heavy personnel wrinkle inside Singleback, pairing 21 personnel (2 RB, 1 TE) with a compressed three man cluster to the strong side. Instead of the balanced 3WR looks you get from sets like Wing Flex or Doubles, you are lining up with a second back detached as an H, giving you a legitimate run game feel with a bunch release package attached. The tight spacing means the bunch receivers get free releases off the line, which is exactly what breaks man coverage in Madden. Defenders assigned to the inside bunch players get caught in traffic on the snap, and press man turns into an automatic loss for the defense.

Strengths

  • Compressed bunch alignment creates natural rub and traffic releases, so Spacing, Z Spot, and Seattle shred man coverage without needing a single hot route
  • Seattle and PA Verticals attack the seams and deep middle out of a run heavy 21 personnel look, punishing defenses that drop a safety into the box
  • The gadget package (End Around Lead, PA End Around, H Misdirection Str) forces user defenders to freeze on the read, which slows down aggressive flat and hook defenders
  • H Zone Str, H Zone WK, HB Power Toss, and HB Counter give you a full outside and gap run tree from the same look, so the play action shells (PA Zone WK, PA Ctr Waggle, PA Misdirection) sell hard off identical run keys
  • Z Option and Z Spot give you high percentage sit routes against zone, and both convert cleanly to man beaters if you hot route the bunch point man on a drag or slant

Weaknesses

  • 21 personnel with a compressed formation means limited horizontal width, so Cover 2 and Cover 6 defenses can squeeze the field and remove your outside throws entirely
  • Interior nano blitzes and A gap pressure hit fast because you have no true slot receiver forcing the defense to widen, and your protection reads get muddy on the play action calls
  • Every play action concept in the set (PA Ctr Waggle, PA Zone WK, PA Misdirection, PA End Around) has a long animation window, so blitz heavy opponents get free rushers before your reads develop
  • The gadget plays are one time shots against good users; once an opponent sees End Around Lead or PA End Around, they user the backside defender and blow up the exchange for a loss
  • Bunch alignment tips the defense to bracket the cluster with a robber or user middle linebacker, and a smart user reading your bunch point man will jump Spacing and Z Spot sit routes

Usage Tips

Read the alignment over your bunch pre snap: if the defense stacks three defenders over the cluster it is man, so go straight to Spacing, Seattle, or Z Spot and let the traffic do the work

Against single high with a linebacker walked over the bunch, run H Zone Str or HB Power Toss to the weak side where the box is lighter, then come back with PA Zone WK on the same look

Save End Around Lead and PA End Around for second and short or third and short in plus territory, when the defense is crowding the box and a user is committed to the run fit

On PA Verticals, hot route the outside bunch receiver on a corner or fade to clear the sideline, then work the seam behind a biting safety

Use Z Option and Z Spot as your third down staples, and block or drag the H back so you always have a checkdown when a user defender takes away the primary sit route
