Defensive Reads

Check safety depth in the run fit. A single high safety who reads run fast and fills downhill can close the cutback lane if the HB bounces outside the trap block.
Usage Tips
Call this on early downs like 1st and 10 or 2nd and short when you expect a base front or a slanting defensive line that likes to shoot gaps.
Check the defensive tackle alignment before the snap. If he is shaded heavy inside the guard, this play is primed because his aggressive first step is exactly what the trap block exploits.
